A chef knife, also known as a French knife, is the most important/valuable kitchen tool in the kitchen work place. The blade of the knife ranges from 8- to 14-inches triangular blade. There are ten parts to the chef knife. The names of the parts of the chef knife are, the tip, the point, the back, the blade, the cutting edge, the bolster/shank, the heel, the rivets, the tang, and the handle. A smaller knife, similar in shape to the chef knife, is the utility knife that ranges from 5- to 7-inch blade. The utility knife can be used on vegetables and fruits for peeling and dicing.

What Knife Does: (Cuts)

The chef knife is a good kitchen tool that is used for dicing, slicing, peeling, chopping, and trimming. This kitchen tool is used on vegetables, meats, fruits, etc. A chef that is very well experienced with knives uses the chef knife to perform various cuts on meats, poultry, fish, and large/small foods.

How to Properly Use the Knife: (Safely)

The chef knife performs many different tasks. When using the chef knife, it must be properly handled and must be used with proper cutting techniques. When using a chef knife, you must take precaution and grip the knife properly. Be advised with how you place your fingers while holding the chef knife.

Knives are an everyday common kitchen tool found in any kitchen of a house, restaurant, and etc. knives are a chef’s number one tool when it comes to working in the kitchen. Chefs are very familiar withal, types of knives and they know how to properly use each one. Each knife varies with different cuts, and different maintenance. Each knife is listed for a specific job in cutting that it accomplishes.

Knife Sanitation/Knife Storage:

Always remember to sanitize and properly storage your chef knife. Before and after each use, wash and rinse the chef knife. Remember that bacteria can be on a knife and may cause contamination. Once the chef knife has been used, be sure to place in a safe storage area where the knife is kept out of harms way.
